Men's Basketball storms back to defeat Grove City 74-66

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Jan. 14 - The Bethany men's Basketball team won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup against Grove City, 74-66 on Saturday

With the win, Bethany improves to 10-5 (5-3, PAC), while Grove City falls to 6-9 (2-6, PAC).

The Bison were led by Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) who finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Liam Davis (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian) tallied 15 points and five boards while Antonio Rudolph (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and Chaice Truex (Wheeling, W.Va./St. John Central (Ohio)) each contributed 11 while Javonte' Trujillo (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Tied at 64 with just over three minutes to play, Davis and Trujillo led Bethany on an 8-0 run to fight off the host Wolverines. Davis started the run with two free throws followed by basket underneath. After a layup from Jones, Trujillo iced the game at the foul lie with two more made shots.

In the early minutes of the second half, the Wolverines hit a trey to tie the game at 40. Over a seven minute stretch, Grove City went on a 14-6 to take a 54-46 lead with 10 minutes to play in the half.

After the hosts worked their lead to 10, the Bison stormed back within two. After a Truex basket, Rudolph found himself all alone after a steal and slammed it home to give Bethany some momentum. Then at the 7:50 mark, Trujillo hit a three to make the score 56-54, Grove City.

Through the first six minutes of the game, Bethany found themselves up 8-4 after Andrew Williams (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) converted twice from the charity stripe. The hosts worked their way back to tie it at 17 with nine minutes to play in the half. 

Then with the score knotted at 20, the Bison used the foul line to score the next seven points to go up 27-20 with 5:47 left in the half. GCC then hit back-to-back treys to make it 27-26. Bethany answered back with a 7-0 run highlighted by a three from Williams as the Bison went into halftime with the 36-33 lead.
